A swim cap is one of those pieces of gear that seems simple but makes a real difference in training. I've been wearing one in every practice since I started competing at age 8, and that dedication paid off at the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, earning a silver medal at the 2008 FINA World Championships as part of the 4x100 medley relay team, and setting an American Record in the 100 yard butterfly for ages 35–39. As a Deboer Swim Team Elite member, I know how much a well-fitting cap matters for drag reduction, warmth, and keeping your goggles secure.
When evaluating swim caps, I focus on material (silicone vs. latex vs. lycra), fit and comfort, durability, and how well the cap stays put during hard sets. Here are my top five swim caps for 2025.
