Open water swimming demands goggles that can handle sun glare, chop, and longer distances without fogging or leaking. I've been swimming competitively since age 8, representing the U.S. at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials, and earning a silver medal at the 2008 FINA World Championships as part of the 4x100 medley relay team. As an American Record holder in the 100 yard butterfly for ages 35–39 and a Deboer Swim Team Elite member, I've trained in pools and open water across multiple decades and understand exactly what a quality pair of open water goggles needs to deliver.
When evaluating open water goggles, I focus on lens tinting and UV protection for sun exposure, a wide field of vision for sighting, a secure and comfortable seal that resists leakage over long distances, and anti-fog coating durability. After testing dozens of pairs in both training and race conditions, here are my top five open water goggles for 2025.
